Double murder charge laid over Dunedin fatal fire

A Dunedin man has been charged with murder following a fatal house fire in Dunedin.

The bodies of David Clarke and Anastasia Neve were found in the Wesley St home on January 22 following the fire. Police believe the pair died before the blaze.

A 46-year-old man will appear in Dunedin District Court on Tuesday on one count of arson and two counts of murder.

"This is a significant milestone in the investigation," said Detective Inspector Steve Wood. "However, the dedicated CIB team still has a lot of detail to work through in order to ensure a robust, fair and thorough investigation.

"We know the arrest for the murder will assist concerned members of the community, and help the families and friends of the victims feel safer as they recover from the ordeal."

Any members of the public with information that may assist with the investigation are encouraged to contact Dunedin Police on 03 417 4800 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
