A fire that broke out on a pile of tyres in North Canterbury is being treated as suspicious.
The pile of more than 500 tyres is still smouldering after catching fire on Racecourse Rd, Amberley, shortly after 6pm on Monday night.
When fire crews arrived they found the tyres well ablaze.
Police now say they would like to hear from anyone that may have seen any suspicious behaviour between 5pm and 6pm on Monday.
Firefighters were able to stop the blaze spreading into a larger pile of tyres just a few metres away, containing at least 200,000 tyres.
