Police have reopened a section of Tinakori Road near Premier House in Wellington, after an unattended item was found earlier this morning.

The item was reported at around 10:50am on Wednesday, but police say there were "no issues with the item".

Police told the public to avoid Tinakori Rd, which is cordoned from 110 and 246 between Hill St and Molesworth St.

The cordons have been removed and police thanked local businesses and residents for their patience and understanding.

Premier House, the official prime ministerial residence, is located at 260 Tinakori Rd.
