Police have released footage of a violent aggravated robbery that happened in January at a bowling alley in west Auckland.

Three men, armed with a rifle and a pistol, robbed Westgate Bowling in Westgate Shopping Centre at 11pm on Thursday January 25.

Security footage shows them knocking an employee to the ground as they enter the premises, before forcing him to open the safe at gunpoint. Another employee can be seen lying on the ground and being threatened by one of the men.

The thieves stole cash from the company safe before fleeing in a black Subaru. The car was later discovered burnt out in Swanson.

Detective Senior Sergeant Kelly Farrant says police are asking for help to identify the culprits.

"This was a really frightening incident for the staff involved," he said in a statement.

"We are keen to identify these violent offenders as soon as possible, so they can be located and arrested and held to account for their actions."

He says anyone with information on the men seen in the footage is urged to contact police, as well as witnesses who were in the area at the time.

Information can be given to Detective Lee Bigelow on 021 191 4093 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.

Alternatively, anyone with information can send a private message to the North Shore, Rodney and West Auckland Police Facebook page.
