Woman assaulted overnight in Hamilton

A woman has been left shaken after allegedly being dragged into a car and assaulted in Hamilton in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The woman, in her early 20s, was on Grey St in Hamilton East when a man driving a dark sedan approached her at around 2am.

He then dragged her into the car and assaulted her before leaving her on the side of the road, police say.

Hamilton police have appealed for anyone who has CCTV footage of the Grey St area between Anzac Parade and Hamilton East Primary School to contact them, as well as anyone who was in the area at the time.

The man has been described as Māori and around 30 years old, wearing a jumper and with short hair.
