Auckland woman Tania Ellwood, a former Shortland Street actress, was one of two people found dead at a Grey Lynn address earlier this week.

The bodies of Ms Ellwood, 39, and 36-year-old Timothy Kerr Hamilton were both found at Dryden Lodge, a halfway house, on Tuesday afternoon.

Ms Ellwood played the character Mandy Timmins on Shortland Street in 2006.

The pair were known to each other, and police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.

The matter will be referred to the coroner after a police investigation has concluded.

A friend and former colleague who worked as a make-up artist with Ms Ellwood described her as "a beautiful soul who would do anything for anyone".

"She was always buying little treats for people - just so generous and lovely," the friend told Newshub.

"I'm just absolutely shocked and devastated for her family."

Police want to hear from anyone who had contact with the pair after 11am on Wednesday February 28.

Anyone with information can call Avondale Police on (09) 820 5700 or anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
