An Auckland boatie is in hospital with significant burns to his legs, torso and forearms after his engine caught fire off Waiheke Island.
Coastguard Northern Region responded after a distress call was made on the emergency radio Channel 16 at 9:40pm on Saturday nights
By the time they arrived at 10:05pm, a nearby vessel was on scene and someone was giving the man first aid.
He was taken to shore at Kennedy Point to meet paramedics before being airlifted to Middlemore Hospital.
