A diver has died in the Doubtful Sound after being pulled from the water on Saturday.
"At approximately 1:45pm today police received a report that a diver had been recovered unresponsive from the water near Bauza Island, Doubtful Sound," says Sergeant Tod Hollebon.
A boat in the area sent a distress call and a nearby vessel with a doctor on board responded to the emergency.
"The doctor performed CPR on the unresponsive diver but unfortunately he did not survive," Sgt Hollebon says.
"The two other divers who assisted in bringing the man to the surface were flown to Invercargill Hospital as a precaution."
The death will be referred to the coroner.
