A woman injured on Mt Taranaki has been rescued.

An alpine rescue team reached the woman and her climbing partner just after midnight on Sunday morning.

Police were called around 2:30pm on Saturday after the 39-year-old woman injured her arm while descending the mountain.

The women were assisted to Syme Hut where they stayed overnight.

The Taranaki Rescue Helicopter deployed a paramedic to the hut but could not reach the pair due to cloudy water.

A plan to get the injured woman to hospital will be made on Sunday morning.
