Auckland teenager 17-year-old Zion Tuoro has been arrested after allegedly carrying out a serious crimewave while on bail.

At around 1:30am on Monday morning, a witness called police after seeing a man peering into cars on a residential street in Takanini.

When police arrived at the scene, the teenager sped off in a stolen vehicle. A police pursuit began but was abandoned when he drove the wrong way on the motorway.

A helicopter monitored the man's location and used road spikes to stop him in Waiuku. He continued driving with deflated tires and then on the car's rims until the car stopped in Pukekohe where he tried to flee on foot but was caught and arrested.

Two girls, aged 14 and 15, were passengers in the stolen vehicle and will be referred to Youth Aid.

The 17-year-old driver was taken to Papakura police station where he allegedly damaged a number of windows.

Tuoro had been wanted for numerous charges including kidnapping and assault, as well as seven car thefts in Orewa over the past few weeks.
