Two people have died in a serious crash on State Highway 1 north of Amberley, Canterbury.
One other patient is in a critical condition and two others have moderate to minor injuries.
Emergency services and the serious crash unit are in attendance at the Galsnevin Rd scene.
Police were called at 6:21am, and a helicopter is en route from Christchurch.
Gaslnevin Rd is temporarily closed, and motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
