Police are responding to urgent call-outs across the Auckland region as people get into trouble in the water.

One person has died at Auckland's Pakiri Beach on Saturday following a water rescue. Police were called to the beach at about 1:30pm after four people got into trouble in the water.

One person died at the scene, and another person was flown to North Shore Hospital. Two children were treated at the scene.

Police were also called out to the Goat Island marine reserve north of Auckland on Saturday.

Emergency services received a call just before 4pm that one person was in difficulty swimming off the island, and two others had gone out to assist.

There are reports one of them is now in a critical condition. Police remain on the scene.
