Police say they are investigating after footage emerged showing an incredibly dangerous overtake near Queenstown on Saturday.
Dashcam footage posted to Reddit shows a vehicle, believed to belong to a rental company, hurtling towards oncoming traffic on the wrong side of the road.
The right-lane driver is forced to pull to the side to avoid a head-on collision.
"Police received a complaint about this car yesterday and we are making enquiries to identify the driver," a spokesperson told Newshub.
The rental company has been contacted for comment.
