A German man survived being washed down a river in Mt Richmond Forest Park in Marlborough by clinging to his pack and making it to a rocky island.
Police say the 45-year-old clung to his pack when he was washed away crossing the river on Friday afternoon and made it to rocks in the middle, where he activated his personal locator beacon.

He was flown to Nelson Hospital suffering hypothermia and leg injuries.
