Weather: New Zealand facing a hot and humid autumn

It's looking like summer will overstay its welcome with higher than average temperatures for autumn.

Forecaster NIWA says there is a high chance all of NZ will have higher than average temperatures and the North Island will to bear the brunt of the mugginess, with a 45 to 50 percent chance of higher rainfall than normal.

The north of the South Island faces similar odds of 35 to 40 percent they will have above average temperatures.

This weekend may provide New Zealander's with an idea of into what to expect, with warm rains expected in parts of the country.

Those who don't have rain on the cards will still need to contend with cloud putting a dampener on spirits.
