Desperate plea after Bowie the cavoodle stolen outside Auckland shop

Police have issued a public plea after a cavoodle puppy named Bowie was stolen in Auckland's New Lynn last Wednesday.

The poor pup was tied up next to a burger bar in Great North Rd. But while her owner was inside the store, someone unhooked the leash and carried the puppy away.

"Bowie is described as a brown cavoodle and was wearing a red collar with a round gold tag.  She is six months old and very friendly," police say on Facebook. A cavoodle is a crossbreed between a poodle and a cavalier King Charles spaniel.

CCTV footage released shows the thief - who appears to be a woman - unclipping her leash and making off with Bowie.

"If you know where Bowie is or have any information that can help us return Bowie to her family please contact Sergeant Matt Murray of Waitakere police on (09) 215 5676," police say.

And social media reaction to the theft has been fierce.

"Hope Bowie is found soon and this P O S is made accountable for what they have have done, her family are so upset," one person said the police Facebook post.
