Dozens of firefighters were called in to fight a blaze that broke out in Parnell around midday on Thursday.

Eight crews and 30 firefighters fought the blaze in the second floor of the 30m by 40m building on Parnell Rd, near the Parnell Gallery.

Traffic was reportedly at a standstill after the road was closed.

"I would imagine there would be some traffic disruption as we have eight crews in attendance," said Fire and Emergency spokesman Paul Radden.

It was extinguished around 1pm, Fire and Emergency confirmed to Newshub.
