Man arrested after gun fired at Wanaka's Luggate Hotel

A man has been arrested after allegedly firing a gun outside the Luggate Hotel near Wanaka.

Wanaka Police were called to the hotel at around 10pm on Friday, after a 42-year-old man allegedly discharged a firearm outside the hotel.

He then took the gun into the hotel before leaving. Nobody was injured in the incident, police say.

He was arrested by the Dunedin Armed Offenders Squad around 3:30am and appeared in Queenstown District Court on Saturday on a number of charges.

Police are investigating the incident and have recovered a sawn-off shotgun but are yet to establish why the incident happened.

Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident and say there is no ongoing risk for the Luggate community.

They would like to hear from any members of the public who were at the hotel on Friday night or before.

The man has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in court again on May 7.
