A paraglider has been seriously injured after crashing near the top of the Christchurch Gondola in the in the Port Hills.
Fire services were called to the scene in the Heathcote Valley shortly before 11:30am on Saturday, because of the difficult location of the patient, a fire spokesman told Newshub.
Three fire fighters from the Woolston used a stokes basket, a type of stretcher with sides, to get the patient to a helicopter landing site.
St John could not confirm the status of the patient, who is now in Christchurch Hospital.
