A man is missing after an empty car was found in the Tairua River.
The empty vehicle was found submerged off Hikuai School Road at 6pm on Sunday.
The person who the car is registered to was reported missing at 5.30pm after they left a friend's house.
A police search on the banks of the river has ended for the night and will resume at 7am on Monday morning.
