A gas leak that caused the evacuation of Picton's township has been resolved.

A 200-metre cordon was put in place around the Picton Railway Station on Saturday morning, where a gas cylinder was leaking.

Police had asked the public to stay clear of the area, which had been cordoned off. Ferry services were advised.

Police now say the gas leak has been resolved and the cordons have lifted.
