"Right down to individual policies that New Zealand was interested in, he knew about".

Ms Ardern described Prince Charles "as a complete environmentalist" and said he deserved to be acknowledged for his environmental work.

"Prince Charles has been talking about the environment for decades and was almost mocked for it in the early days, particularly knowing about climate change"

She said he was interested in New Zealand's work with youth.

"His trust does a lot of work with young people who are out of employment so he was quite interested in what's happening here."
