A pair of boaties reported missing overnight near Great Barrier Island have been found safe and well.

The vessel, carrying a father and daughter, was due home Friday after a fishing contest. The police maritime unit failed to find the pair after eight hours of searching on Saturday, and the search was called off at sunset.

They were spotted by a police Eagle helicopter on the north side of Waiheke Island on Sunday morning, Coastguard told Newshub.

It's reported the father is 42 and the daughter, 17.
