Three men suspected of robbing a Taupo dairy were arrested shortly afterwards when police spiked the getaway vehicles' tyres.

Around 8am on Sunday morning three men wielding crowbars entered a dairy on Rifle Range Rd, and left with cash and cigarettes.

Police saw the getaway car - a Subaru, believed to be stolen - about half-an-hour later on State Highway 5, near Waiotapu.

The suspects didn't stop so police laid spikes on Tumunui Rd, and quickly rounded up the suspects.

Police say the trio, aged 27, 30 and 37, are likely to face "numerous" driving and robbery charges.
