Police have confirmed there is "nothing to indicate" that anyone has been shot after they were called to an incident at a local marae in Putāruru in the Waikato.
Emergency services were notified of an incident at Whakaaratamaiti Marae just before 5pm.
The calls followed a man approaching passers-by in the area, syaing that someone had been shot.
Businesses in the area noticed police near their properties.
Police said they will provide updates as any new information comes to hand.
Putāruru Domain is about an hour's drive south of Hamilton.
