Chlorine-contaminated water blamed for skin flare-ups

There's been a noticeable flare-up of skin conditions in Christchurch - and sufferers are blaming chlorine in the city's water supply.

Christchurch Central Unichem Pharmacy says it's seen a sudden influx of people asking for help with eczema and dermatitis.

Eczema sufferer Mackenzie Soper told Newshub her condition flared up after chlorine was introduced in March.

The auto-immune disease makes skin dry, raw and itchy.

Health officials say the change of season can have an impact, but it is possible for chlorinated water to dry out the skin.
