A man who was found on fire on Dunedin's King Edward Street this morning will not have his death treated as suspicious, police say.
Emergency services were called to the scene on King Edward St just before 11am while a service was taking place inside.
The incident took place outside Nations Church, NZME said.
Members of the public helped to put the fire out, but the man died at the scene.
"We are extremely grateful to the members of the public who went to the man's assistance and who managed to put the fire out," a statement from police read.
"The actions of these people were incredibly courageous."
Formal identification processes are underway and police are working to notify the victim's family.
Police say support will be offered to those who helped or witnessed the incident.
