A crash in Puwera, south of Whangarei has taken one life.
The two-vehicle collision happened about 3am on State Highway 1.
The driver of one of the vehicles, who was alone, was killed. The other car had eight people in it - five got moderate to serious injuries, and were taken to hospital by ambulance.
Three others had minor injuries.
The serious crash unit is investigating.
