New information means police can continue their search for missing Rotorua man Nigel Peterson.

The 33-year-old, who is on the autism spectrum, has been missing since November 17, 2017 from a supported learning facility.

Bay of Plenty police operations support manager Kevin Taylor says search teams will work hard to bring  Mr Peterson home.

"There are a significant number of police staff and LandSAR personnel who will be involved in the ground search, as well as a police dog team."

Police now have a better idea of where he may have gone, and urge anyone that has any information to contact them.

"The new information is a profile we had done of Nigel, and what his thinking and decision-making was likely to have been, and the course of action he could have taken."

Teams will search both new and previously covered areas

"The reason we haven't been actively searching out on the ground for Nigel over the last couple of months is no new information has come forward. We have to have somewhere to search."

Ring Rotorua police on (07) 348 0099, send a private message to the BOP Police Facebook page or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you have information on his whereabouts.
