An investigation is set to get underway following a fire in Southland that left a house on Collinson Rd completely destroyed on Wednesday night.
Fire and Emergency spokesperson Andrew Norris told Newshub it's not known if last night's blaze, about halfway between Winton and Lorneville, is suspicious.
"Police have already been involved overnight but they'll await the outcome of the investigation before they decide whether or not they need to be involved further."
Mr Norris says by the time emergency services arrived there wasn't much they could do to save the property, which was "at the point of collapse".
"It suffered extensive damage."
A fire investigator will be on site on Thursday morning.
