Staff at Beehive Premier Bacon are taking action calling for better pay.

More than 100 employees at the Wairarapa site are refusing to work any overtime.

E tū Union lead organiser Mark James says workers often have to take leave without pay when sick, putting stress on families.

"If you are off with the stomach bug you have to stay away from work for three days."

The employees want an hourly increase of 75 cents, as well as an extra day of both sick and bereavement leave.

Mr James says the company should have no issue paying their staff more.

"The difference between what the company offered us and what we're seeking is $118,000."

Newshub has approached Beehive Premier Bacon for comment.
