Bunnings Warehouse will payout $11 million to its workers after miscalculating holiday pay.

The mistake affected 12,335 current and former staff members, who will receive back payments for any miscalculated leave between April 1, 2004 and May 31, 2018.

The median payout is $317.

Bunnings has informed current staff members of the repayment, while former staff members will be contacted through their last known address.

Anyone who thinks they've been affected can submit a claim form on the Bunnings website.

"Like many other private and government organisations, we have found interpreting and applying the Holiday Act to be a challenge," Bunnings NZ General Manager Toby Lawrance said in a statement.

"As a large employer in New Zealand, we understand the importance of the trust that exists between our team and the business, particularly in ensuring they are paid correctly.

"Clearly this is disappointing for us and for our team and we will continue to work to ensure that we have the right systems and processes to support our team."
