Police believe the driver of fatal car crash near Christchurch in October last year was travelling at around 200km/h.

Passenger Jaimey Leigh Fellows, 32, was thrown from the car as it barrel-rolled during the crash near Burnham shortly after midnight on October 21.

Ms Fellows was wearing a seatbelt but it snapped and she died at scene from her injuries.

The driver, 35-year-old Craig Richard Bennett of Dunsandel, admitted causing her death through his dangerous driving, at the Christchurch District Court on Tuesday, Court News reports.

Following the crash, Bennett's blood tests showed a positive result for THC - an active ingredient found in cannabis. However he is not facing any drug-related charges.

Bennett has been remanded on bail for sentencing in August.
