The owners of a Dunedin dairy have been left "shaken" after being robbed at gunpoint on Thursday night.
Emergency services were called just after 8pm to a store on Musselburgh Rise, where two people had entered the store.
The male was holding what appeared to be a handgun and was accompanied by another person - "probably a female", police say.
The pair stole cash, cigarettes and pouches of tobacco. It is not known how they fled the scene.
"No one was injured but the owners were shaken by the incident," a police spokesperson says.
Police would like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious outside the shop before or after the robbery, including anyone offering "cut-price or unusual quantities of cigarettes or tobacco".
