An Auckland family has turned to Givealittle after a burst sewerage pipe left their house filled with hazardous waste and uninhabitable.

Shane, Michelle, Amber, Blake and Isla Bigwood have been forced out of their house due to the hazard posed by sewage.

Ms Bigwood says she came home to a house filled with disgusting smelling waste on June 11, after the pipe that collects all the sewage in their subdivision exploded in their backyard.

"Because sewage is highly toxic bio hazardous material they lost all their photos, their clothing, and to add to their heartbreak items Michelle's mother had made for their kids prior to her passing," the description states.

Men in biohazard suits cleared the house out and now almost everything they own sits in two skips in the drive way of their ruined home.

The family has contents insurance but it only covers so much and will not be able to replace the sheer amount of belongings lost to the incident.

To add insult to injury the Bigwood's had recently renovated the home and the night before the pipe burst they had put the last picture on the wall.

It will take months to repair the damage to the house, which Stuff reports is in the Auckland suburb of Red Beach.

The Givealittle is hoping boost the amount of money the family has to buy new items above the contents insurance pay out.
