A video of two women in a violent brawl on an Ōtāhuhu street has been viewed thousands of times online, with commenters asking why no one intervened to stop it earlier.

The footage, shared on Facebook over the weekend, shows one woman punching the other while she lies on the ground shouting, "Get off me!"

The initial fight lasts for about a minute, with a group of onlookers standing and watching before one finally intervenes to pull the attacker off the victim.

After the fight breaks up, the attacker walks away - but one of the onlookers tells the victim to fight back and go for "round two". She takes the advice and pushes the other woman to the ground, throwing punches until another bystander tries to break it up.

It is not clear when the footage was filmed or whether police were informed of the fracas.

The video has been viewed thousands of times online, with many commenters asking why no one - including the person filming - intervened to break it up earlier.
