Jacinda Ardern and Clarke Gayford's baby has officially been moved to the maternity ward on the 10th floor of Auckland City Hospital.

Ms Ardern gave birth to the baby girl at 4:45pm on Thursday, with Mr Gayford at her side to support her. He stayed with the mother and baby overnight.

The couple have a normal room in the maternity ward, although it is slightly more private at the end of the corridor.

Information released by the Prime Minister's office has revealed more details of the first few hours of the baby's life.

The first photo of the baby that was used in news reports around the world showed the baby wearing three items of handmade clothing.

Her hat was knitted by a supporter, her baby shawl was knitted by Mr Gayford's mother and a blanket the Prime Minister was wearing was a gift from Ngāi Tahu iwi.

Newshub has been told Ms Ardern got a small amount of sleep on Thursday night, and had a dinner of marmite toast and Milo.

Everybody is reportedly doing well, but tired.
