A man has died after a hang gliding accident near Auckland.
Emergency services were called to the scene at Kariotahi Beach at about 4pm on Thursday afternoon.
Police told Stuff that the hang glider appeared to have suffered a "catastrophic failure".
The male pilot died at the scene, and police are informing his next of kin.
