A 68-year-old man has died at Rotorua's Polynesian Spa.
He was pulled from the water unresponsive just after 1pm and died despite efforts to resuscitate him.
Witnesses told Rotorua Daily Post he had been sitting in one of the complex's hottest pools for more than half an hour.
Emergency services were called to the facility at around 1:20pm, with a hearse arriving an hour later.
Spa management say the complex is open but not fully operational, with swimmers asked to move to other pools.
Police are making initial enquiries and the death will be referred to the Coroner.
