Napier locals claim chlorination causes dry skin, digestion issues

Hundreds of Napier residents have taken to social media claiming water chlorination is badly affecting their health.

In a Facebook poll on private group Napier News, more than 800 people said chlorination has given them dry skin.

Five-hundred described having a dry scalp and hair, with digestive upsets and eczema also an issue.

Bri Leahy, 24, told Stuff she has experienced "skin infection after skin infection" after Napier's water supply was chlorinated.

The city suffered a water crisis over the last summer, with many locals reporting brown water coming out of their taps and pipes.

The Napier City Council says its long-term plan is due to be adopted this Friday. As part of that, two de-chlorinated water stations will be installed in the city.
