One person is dead after a stolen car hit a tree in Whanganui.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Polson St in Castlecliff at about 2:15pm on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased person was in the front passenger seat of the car, which was reported as stolen.
The driver fled the scene after the crash, and police are trying to locate them.
The serious crash unit is investigating the incident.
