One person is dead after a suspicious house fire in Christchurch.
Police were called to the suspicious blaze on Caulfield Ave in Halswell just after 12:32pm on Wednesday, a police spokeswoman says.
The person's death is unexplained, police say.
Police are investigating the death and a scene guard will be there overnight.
Emergency services were called to another house fire on the corner of Centre St and Glenalmond Crescent in Invercargill at 2:13pm on Wednesday.
A 16-year-old boy was taken to Southland Hospital in a moderate condition, a St John spokesman says.
