Revealed: New Zealand’s most influential teachers

There is one of those super cool teachers in all our lives.

The one that you won't forgot from your primary or high school days that inspired you to be the best or helped you out in tough times.

Garin College music teacher Kyle Proffit is that person for a number of high profile Kiwi musicians - such as Broods, Mika and Robinson.

Broods singer Georgia Nott says she is "pretty proud" to have had Mr Proffit as her teacher.

"He's kind of the go to guy in Nelson, yeah I’m pretty proud, I don't think I'd be sitting here if it wasn’t for him, I know I wouldn’t be sitting here if it wasn’t for him."

Even The Project host Kanoa Lloyd revealed how a special teacher in her life helped her through tough times and is now a friend.

"There was a time when things were seriously going pretty bad for me at school and things weren’t looking good for me at home.

"And there was one teacher who totally took me under her wing, she wasn't just a teacher for me, she kind of became a real mentor and a real friend.

"And I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for her help and support."
