Two crashes involving several cars cause traffic chaos on Auckland's north shore

One person has been taken to hospital in after two large crashes caused traffic chaos in Auckland on Thursday morning.

At 6:58am police were called to a crash involving six cars and a truck at the intersection of Dairy Flat Highway and Coatesville-Riverhead Highway.

That accident left one person in a critical condition and they have now been taken to hospital. The road is currently closed.

Both the serious crash unit and commercial vehicle safety team are attending the scene.

A separate crash occurred earlier in the morning at 6:02 on State Highway 1 at Dairy Flat. Police say several vehicles were involved but nobody was injured.

At the time one lane was closed southbound between the Silverdale off-ramp and Oteha Valley Rd off-ramp.

NZTA is advising that motorists no longer need to avoid the area.
