The dream of cable cars could return to Dunedin

A dream of returning cable cars to the streets of Dunedin has come one step closer.

Two cable cars have arrived in Dunedin from Ferrymead Historic Park in Christchurch.

Dunedin was the second city in the world to run cable cars but stopped in 1957

Neville Jemmett of the the Dunedin Heritage Light Rail Trust hopes one day soon they will be running again.

"It's just going to be magic. I don't think Dunedin really realises what this will do, it's going to be a massive tourist attraction."

The trust is hoping to raise the $23 million dollars required to reinstate the 1.6km Mornington line.
