Kidnap of Auckland baby caught on CCTV

CCTV footage has been released showing a newborn baby being kidnapped from her Epsom home.

Nadene Faye Manukau-Togiavalu convinced her cousin Sydnee Toulapapa to kidnap the 11-day-old baby on August 8, 2017.

The child was found by police safe and sound seven hours later.

The video shows a woman wearing a balaclava walking onto the deck of a property and slowly opening the front door. She emerges three minutes later from the house holding the baby to her chest. She can then be seen opening the front gate and leaving the property.

In a victim impact statement, the baby's parents on Monday said the period of time in which their daughter was missing was the "longest seven hours of our lives".

They said the ordeal was "like watching a horror movie", and called the decision to discharge Toulapapa without conviction "appalling".
