Firefighters called to Mt Eden restaurant in Auckland

Flames have torn through the top floor of a popular restaurant in Auckland's Mt Eden.

Around 10 emergency crews were called to The Garden Shed on Mount Eden Road at around 3am on Tuesday.

At its peak, the fire was burning around 20 metres by 25 metres.

"We are checking for any further hotspots that may be hidden behind a wall cavity," assistant area commander Steve Sosich told Newshub.

He said the fire had been contained, and it's too early to know if the blaze is suspicious.

It's not the first time a major fire has erupted in Mt Eden this year.

In March, thirteen fire trucks were called to extinguish a fire at the Namaste Indian restaurant that was believed to have started in the kitchen.
