A Hamilton high school is in lockdown for the second time this year, reportedly due to a bomb threat.

Police were called to Hillcrest High School just after 12pm on Monday after receiving a report of "concerning information".

A source told Newshub that a bomb threat caused the lockdown.

Students have now been told they will soon be evacuated and sent home for the day, according to a source.

Evacuation for Year 13 students began at 2:15pm, and each year group will be evacuated from the premises every 15 minutes.

Students have been instructed to remain in the centre of the school as they leave.

Hillcrest High posted to their official Facebook page that no one should phone or come onto school premises from 1pm. Newshub understands parents were also emailed about the lockdown.

The post said the office is currently unattended until further notice.

In February Hillcrest High went into lockdown after a student suffered a medical event.

Te Puke High School in the Bay of Plenty is also in lockdown after a reported threat. Police were called to the scene just after 10am on Monday morning, and are working with school staff.
