The capital lit up every colour of the rainbow on Saturday evening, with the annual Sky Show fireworks display.
The show, which was accompanied by a soundtrack streamed on The Breeze and More FM radio stations, was postponed last week thanks to the presence of a southern right whale in the Wellington harbour.
The spectacle held particular significance this year, with Saturday night's show the first Wellington will hold in celebration of Matariki - the Māori New Year - in an effort to make it a cornerstone event for the city.
It is the largest fireworks display in New Zealand.
