Two men have been arrested in Wellington after stealing coins from parking meters.
The pair, 37 and 31, broke into 25 parking meters over the past three weeks.
They have been charged with wilful damage and theft after the meters were left damaged.
Wellington Area Prevention Manager Insp Wade Jennings said the meters have tamper alarms.
"These alarms were diverted through to the Wellington District Command Centre to allow officers to be sent to the area immediately when a machine was being broken into.
"We also increased patrols in the central city and closely monitored CCTV footage."
The men are due to appear in Wellington District Court on August 3.
